Vancouver Alt-Pop Artist Mauvey Redistributes Power on “The King” | Complex Canada

Vancouver-via-London artist Mauvey has shared his first single of the year “The King,” along with a visualizer for the track.

Exploring ideas of equality and respect, the uplifting song expands on Mauvey’s continuous message of love and self-worth. “Throughout history ‘Kings’ (men) have been the most important people, the most protected people and the most respected people. I wanted to write a song tearing that apart. ‘THE KING’ is a redistribution of power and respect to everyone, especially the immensely powerful women we have in our world,” he says.

Recently, Mauvey supported Snotty Nose Rez Kids at their show in Vancouver. He’s currently embarking on a tour of the UK, returning for two Vancouver shows in June and July.

“The King” follows Mauvey’s 2021 EP, The Florist. Born in Ghana and raised between Vancouver and the UK, the alt-pop musician is inspired by the eclectic likes of YePrinceChildish Gambino and Oumou Sangaré.
