PREMIERE – Michaela Slinger releases video for “Make You Sad” | Canadian Beats
BC-based rising indie-pop artist Michaela Slinger is unveiled her brand new video for her single, “Make You Sad”.
For this video, Slinger worked with director Miranda MacDougall, production company Eastcherry Media Inc. and producer Ben Chick. ‘‘Make You Sad’’ was written by Slinger, Polaris Prize listed, and JUNO-nominated Louise Burns and with JUNO award-winning Kevvy and is available on all streaming services via 604 Records.
The intense and powerful video was shot in Penticton and Osoyoos, more precisely the White Lake Grass Lands protected area. You might recognize the Plaza Motel in Penticton or even an Air BNB in Penticton!
The video follows a mother who is coming to terms with her station in life and who is reflecting on her relationship with her grown daughter. She has packed some mementos from years gone by and checks into a motel, where she plans to stay for some time until she finds the courage to go see their family home for the last time.
‘’I play a supporting role throughout the video that reminds the protagonist of her younger self, and of the more general obsession we have with youth in our popular culture. The video builds to a breaking point in the final chorus, which calls my character’s entire existence into question and finds the protagonist owning her story and making peace with her past,” said Slinger.
